Private collector for the VANDERPOEL Trophy, Tribute to SIR CHICHESTER, St. Stephens school, Rome

Year 1967 was for John Vassar House sculptor (JVH) an intense year with a creative production of Hydro-Wave style sculptures. The main reason for this is related to the tragic flooding and destruction of the embarkments that took place in November 1966. Although living in Rome JVH must have been strongly struck by the tragedy. Besides the human catastrophe this event also damaged and destroyed millions of masterpieces of art.

JVH cast an edition of 5 “Fiume Arno” or “4 Cubi Affondando” (sinking). 

The abstract hydrodynamic wave was immediately used for the rowing trophy of St Stephens school of Rome rowing team.

The images attached are of the wax model, which is rather unique. The sculpture measures 110x85x12cm. The wax model of this size and heft is hollow inside with an average even thickness of 3/4 mm. The wax model ready for casting will be used to make plaster forms to ensure 3 pieces and shows the wax surface texture made by JVH.

The abstract hydrodynamic form clearly shows the abstract rowing boat and a progression of pillars for measuring.
