This diminutive model is an integral component of the science-themed cantilever and circuit sculptures crafted by John Vassar House (JVH). It draws inspiration from the 1968 Table of Elements shields, yet its purpose is to emphasize the stability of Copper-63 (Cu-63) as a non-decaying isotope.




Cu-63 finds applications in various scientific disciplines, including research, medical imaging and treatment, biological research, tissue health, and nuclear magnetic resonance. Its unique properties also make it crucial in the production of other essential isotopes and the development of analytical techniques.
The fascination of JVH with this copper metal isotope, nearly five decades ago, underscores his remarkable foresight in the field of science.



Initially conceived for a large-scale production, the model was intended to be cast in bronze to symbolize the alliance between copper and tin. Consequently, it was not silver-plated.
JVH successfully communicates the stability of Cu-63 through the following design elements:
– A cantilever shield characterized by gradual tapering and minimal laminations on its sides.
– A perfectly flat inner surface, resembling a diagrammatic representation.
– A precisely centered, thin, and straight ridge positioned on the inner surface.
– The extension of the ridge beyond the table, effectively extending its stability message.
